Rochon Born at Torrance (a suburb in Los Angeles), is the daughter of Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos was her home high school. She graduated in 1982. In 1986, she graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in which she received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. Her degree also included minors in theatre and sociology. Rochon has returned to CSUDH in 2016, was the keynote speaker at CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities' commencement ceremonies.

Ullerup was first seen in Battlestar Galactica remake, the Sci-Fi Channel's television show. She played Julia Brynn. Her character, Ashley Magnus, was created for Sanctuary's initial and second season. The reason for her departure was a source of debate between fans, with many who wanted her back in future episodes, until the show was cancelled in the year 2012. Ullerup appeared in Chesapeake Shores as Bree O'Brien. Ullerup appeared as Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. Ullerup is a regular in the role of Dale Travers, in the Hallmark Signed, Sealed, Delivered series of films, which began in 2016.
